“Be alert, be on the watch! Your enemy, the Devil, roams round like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Be firm in your faith and resist him, because you know that your fellow believers in all the world are going through the same kind of sufferings”. 1 Pet 5:8-9
Wolves in sheep's clothing have crept on to this and other Christian sites. Bad theology started to come in and it didn't happen overnight, many did not notice. Soon believers adjusted to the “new ways” and the false teaching and when True believers with discernment began to speak up what happened? They were lectured, asked to leave, called troublemakers and divisive. Unity had become all-important. But how can true believers be united around false or weak preaching and teaching? Solid Believers, Christians, God's Children are being told that they must be tolerant for the sake of Unity and love.
Yes, the Bible told us a day was coming when people would not give heed to “sound doctrine” 2 Tim 2:3,4. People want their ears tickled. Paul told Timothy to “preach the word” and not to “tickle the ears.”
We are told as believers to “Hold fast to the message which can be trusted and which agrees with the doctrine. In this way you will be able to encourage others with the true teaching and also to show the error of those who are opposed to it.” Titus 1:9 “that you may become blameless and harmless children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the Day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain. Phil 2:15-16
The Greek word for “holding fast” is epecho, it means to hold upon i.e. to retain, to pay attention to. In Titus 1:9 when Paul mentions “holding fast the faithful word” the Greek word is antechomai – it is more active and intense, it means to hold oneself opposite to, or against, hold back, withstand, to keep oneself directly opposite to anyone, hold to him firmly, cleave to, paying heed to him (the Lord by His Word).
Holding fast the word is someone who is Bible based, sound in his/her understanding of what the Scripture says and does not say. They understand what God has said as Gods word is living and active today just as it was when it was spoken or written.
“Therefore brethren, stand fast, [holding fast) and hold the traditions which you have been taught, whether by word or our epistle” 2 Thess 2:15. “As he has been taught” in the Greek means “According to the teaching.” Meaning they received the truth for some time and are trained up in it. There are some people that know the truth, but need encouragement to continue in it, others are ignorant and unintentionally oppose it. Then there are some who intentionally align themselves AGAINST the truth with full knowledge they are not esteeming Gods written word. Titus is told “Exhort” (convict) – who? Those who contradict the word!
We find that THOSE WHO OPPOSES SOUND DOCTRINE ARE: “Whoever teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the true words of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the teaching of our religion is: SWOLLEN WITH PRIDE; KNOWS NOTHING; HAS AN UNHEALTHY DESIRE TO ARGUE AND QUARREL ABOUT WORDS; JEALOUSY; DISPUTES; INSULTS; EVIL SUSPICIONS; CONSTANT ARGUMENTS FROM PEOPLE WHOSE MINDS DO NOT FUNCTION AND WHO NO LONGER HAVE THE TRUTH” 1 Tim 6:3-5
God has raised Watchmen who when they see the enemy coming must warn the sheep or they will be devoured. I an just one of many Jesus Believers teaching, preaching, sharing, loving in hurt, pain, set backs I'm called everything but a child of The King...But I won't give up...But I won't stop!!...But I won't just go away....I just won't quit!!!...In my tears I will obey you Jesus Christ...I do love You JESUS and I do love Your people which is Your real true Church I'm don't love men and women made buildings.
While it may be a tough road, God will always honor a love for the truth and your “contending.” To keep silent when such things are going on today is not an option. Eternity may be at stake for some. If you have a passion for the truth and for contending for it, others who are like-minded will come into your life. You are not asked to go on this journey alone. If you do nothing, you are helping the enemy. If you remain silent, you allow the Spiritual destruction to continue.
I am asking you to be a part of a solution and not just be a part of discussing the problem. Will you count the cost of contending and go for it? You will someday be held accountable for what you choose to do.
