Christ Believers and His followers we often talk about the need to “speak the truth in love,” a command found in Ephesians 4:15. Many times what we mean is the need to share difficult truths in a gentle, kind, inoffensive manner. From a practical standpoint, we know that difficult things are best heard when our defenses are not up. In a loving, non-threatening environment, hard truths are more readily received. So it is biblical to share hard truths with others “in love,” in the manner that the phrase is commonly used. Looking at the context of Ephesians 4:15, however, gives us a deeper insight into what it means to “speak the truth in love.”
A Denomination is a Religious organization that separates and divides congregations of Jesus Christ's followers Believers and faith. Examples of denominations include the Presbyterian Church in America; the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod; and the American Baptist Church. Denominationalism, then, is a devotion to one’s denomination (“I’m a Church of Christ or Church of God in Christ or Methodist or Pentecostal, Holiness are some made-up personal name and proud of it”) or, more negatively, an emphasis on denominational differences to the point of being narrowly exclusive (“If you’re not a Methodist, then you’re wrong”). The negative type of denominationalism could be called sectarianism, and it is overly divisive.
Denominations vary in their creeds, practices, and traditions. Denominationalism clings to the particular creed, practice, and tradition of one denomination and rejects all other groups as unworthy of association. While there is a major sin and wrong with having denominations, the biblical truth, IS, JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONLY REAL TRUE WAY AND HIM ALONE..., we should strive for UNITY within the Church. Apostle Paul writes, “I appeal to you, Brothers and Sisters, in The Name of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, that All of you Agree with one another in what you say and that there be No Divisions among you, but that you be perfectly United in mind and thought. . . . What I mean is this: One of you says, ‘I follow Paul’; another, ‘I follow Apollos’; another, ‘I follow Cephas’; still another, ‘I follow Christ.’ Is Christ Divided God's people? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?” (1 Corinthians 1:10–13 ). The Christ Believers at Corinth were dividing themselves into groups based on the personality and practices of their favorite teachers. Apostle Paul rebukes this early denominationalism as wholly unnecessary and damaging to the Unity of Christ. Christ's followers are to follow Christ alone and No one else, and the Church is to agree and the Same judgment because we follow a God who is One and who does not change ( Deuteronomy 6:4; ) ( John 10:30 ).
On at least one occasion, Jesus Christ had to deal with a sectarian attitude among His disciples. John came to Jesus one day and said, “Teacher . . . We saw someone driving out demons in Your Name and We told him to stop because he was not one of us” ( Mark 9:38 ). This was brought to The Church which is Yah Yeshua The Christ, so John’s attitude can be properly called denominationalism, but it was a prototype. Jesus rebukes John: “Do not stop him. . . . For no one who does a miracle in My Name can in the next moment say anything bad about Me, for whoever is not against us is for us. Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in My Name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward” ( Mark 9:39–41 ). Because The Name of JESUS IS THE HEAVENLY FATHER.
Applying this incident to the Church LEADERSHIP, We can say that, first, denominationalism is wrong and sinful because The LORD cannot use others who are not involved in ONE HOPE, ONE SPIRIT, ONE LORD, ONE FAITH, ONE BAPISTIM AND ONE LORD GOD WHO IS THE FATHER OF US ALL. Further, denominationalism is sinful and wrong because the LORD may have works in progress that we know nothing about, and He doesn’t need our approval to use someone not associated with your religious organization. Denominationalism is putting walls up and keeping Christ Jesus' Believers divided. by Jesus’ words, “Father make them One even as We are One.”
We can assume that other religious people of religions are not “really” serving the Lord simply because they don’t belong to ONE LORD, ONE FAITH, AND ONE BAPTISM or run in their way and beliefs. Service in Christ’s Name will be rewarded. We should allow the Giver of all good gifts to hand out the rewards as He sees fit. Apostle Paul acknowledges that not everyone who preaches the gospel is someone he would approve of: “It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, . . . out of selfish ambition and to become wealth and rich, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this, I rejoice because Judgment Day is coming and they will give an answer to God.” ( Philippians 1:15–18 ). What matters is whether we agree that there is only One Way. And what matters is that the gospel is being proclaimed The Lord Jesus Christ Way.
While we are to strive toward unity in the Spirit, there are no biblical reasons for the people of God to separate themselves from other Christ Believers and maintain doctrinal distinctives. Apostle Paul warns that there is strong judgment for those who distort the gospel ( Galatians 1:6–9;) ( 2 Peter 2 ). The truth matters, and the gospel is of supreme importance. The gospel must not be watered down or altered. We must “contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people ( Jude 1:3 ). Believers must separate from those who deny the truth about Jesus Christ and pervert the gospel: “If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them” ( 2 John 1:10 ).
Denominations spring up for various wrong reasons: mode of baptism, frequency of communion, use of musical instruments, etc. Even cultural and ethnic differences can give rise to different sinful denominations. Despite the abundance of fleshly sinful denominations today, we must remember that that gospel is paramount. When there is agreement on the Person and Work of Christ in salvation, then all of your religions and denominations take a back seat and denominationalism is useless and void. Christ Believers in one hope, one Spirit, One faith, and One Lord God should pray for all those who are bound up and blinded by the evil of men... to reject those in other human-established religious denominations and focus on spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ in its purity.
I do not follow or respect denominationalism. During my ministry and life here on earth, I' AM ONLY FOLLOWING THE LORD JESUS CHRIST...And looking for this cooperation from all Jesus Christ's Believers and His Church leaders, regardless of their race, color rich, poor have or have nots, educated or not. Apostle Winfree James cared nothing about the denominations a person claimed to be; I just wanted the message of Christ to be heard. The result I hope and pray will be that millions of God's chosen people hear the gospel simply preached in my lifetime and His sons and daughters are built up in the faith walking and living in all the fullness of God's Promised blessings.
Born-again Believers in Jesus Christ should “stand firm in the One Spirit, striving together as One for the faith of the gospel” ( Philippians 1:27 ). We must avoid All denominationalism by allowing God’s Holy Spirit to work in us, for peace is a fruit of The Spirit of Christ ( Galatians 5:22 ). “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of One body you were called to peace” ( Colossians 3:15 ).
Importantly, we are also called to love those who do not know Christ. The best way we can show love is to share with them the truth of the gospel. Apart from Christ, people are dead in their sins and destined for an eternity in hell ( John 3:16–18;) ( Romans 6:23 ). But in Christ, they can receive new life and eternal salvation ( Romans 10:9–15;) ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ). This is a message we must share. Peter wrote, “In your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to answer everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect” ( 1 Peter 3:15 ). We share the gospel because we love the people for whom Christ died. We speak God’s truth because of His love and in a way that clearly and unapologetically communicates both truth and love (1 John 4:10–12 ). In Christ Jesus. Amen.
